Brecken was born on January 19, 2021, with multiple complex congenital heart defects (CHD). Just days after entering the world, he underwent the first of many open-heart surgeries that would mark his short, but extraordinary life.

Brecken faced more challenges than most people encounter in a lifetime. He endured countless surgeries and procedures, runs on life support, had endless scans and tests, tubes and wires, prolonged hospital stays, and unimaginable physical hardships. Yet through it all, he continued to smile, love deeply, and bring joy to everyone around him.

Much of Brecken's care took place at Children's Wisconsin, where he received exceptional treatment from a team that became like family. We will forever be grateful for the compassion, expertise, and hope they provided during some of our most difficult days.

In June 2023, our family traveled from Wisconsin to California for what we hoped would be the surgery that would change everything. Referred by his medical team to Stanford Hospital, Brecken underwent a complex procedure intended to give him a more normal, functioning heart and the opportunity for a brighter future.

We were filled with hope. We dreamed of a bright future for him. We had even planned his Make-A-Wish trip to Disney following his surgery so he could finally experience the adventures he deserved without being limited by fatigue or medical challenges.

But, despite his incredible strength and determination, Brecken faced devastating complications after surgery.

On July 23, 2023, our sweet boy went to be with Jesus.

The loss of Brecken forever changed our family.

Yet even in his brief two-and-a-half years of life, Brecken left an extraordinary legacy. His infectious smile, pure heart, and unwavering joy touched countless lives. He taught us what true resilience looks like. Despite every obstacle he faced, he found happiness in the simplest moments and loved everyone deeply.

In the midst of our deepest grief, we experienced the incredible power of kindness, compassion, and community. Friends, family, neighbors, and even complete strangers surrounded us with love and support when we needed it most. Their generosity reminded us that even in life's darkest moments, light can still be found through the goodness of others.

Brecken's Blessings was created to honor Brecken's legacy by paying that kindness forward.

What began as a way to keep his memory alive has grown into a mission dedicated to strengthening children, supporting families, and uplifting communities through meaningful acts of kindness, compassion, and hope.

Through scholarships, community and family support initiatives, and opportunities to recognize and encourage others, we strive to create a lasting impact and inspire a culture of kindness. We believe that even the smallest act of generosity has the power to change a life.
